Trauma Treatment in Florida: What to Know

When seeking trauma treatment in Florida, it’s important to keep in mind that trauma disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can manifest in a variety of different ways. No two people will react to a traumatic event the same way, and similarly, no two people will experience the effects of a trauma disorder the same. However, common symptoms of PTSD can include:

  • Flashbacks to the traumatic event
  • Nightmares or other difficulties with sleep
  • Feelings of isolation and detachment from others
  • Having outbursts or extreme reactions
  • Avoidance of thoughts or feelings around the traumatic experience

Because trauma can show up in many different ways, it’s important that treatment for it reflects the particular needs and circumstances of each individual. Tikvah Lake Recovery Center offers care that provides exactly that: highly individualized treatment that is tailored to your specific needs.

When clients first start their recovery journey with us, they meet with our clinical team to develop a treatment plan that addresses the specifics of their trauma disorder. This will take into account any co-occurring mental health or substance use disorders so that we can effectively treat them as well.

Clients will then go on to work through their treatment plan through 10 hours of individual therapy a week and other complementary holistic therapies. What these therapy sessions and holistic practices will look like will depend on your needs, experiences, and preferences.

Tikvah Lake Recovery Center’s Trauma Treatment Program

Like our other luxury mental health treatment programs, our trauma treatment program centers on residential treatment. Clients stay between 30 and 90 days at our residential treatment center in Florida, where they can take a step back from daily stressors and devote themselves fully to finding healing from their traumatic experience. Here’s what to expect at our residential trauma treatment program:

  • Support: Our dedicated clinical staff will collaborate with you to work through your trauma and find healing. The high volume of one-on-one therapy sessions will give our team time to understand what will best help you on your journey to recovery and time to implement these practices. You can find additional support from our executive concierge team of hospitality-trained professionals who are committed to ensuring a comfortable stay at our treatment center.
  • Privacy: We understand that it takes a lot of courage to open up and talk about traumatic experiences. We value discretion and sensitivity in our treatment programs, and we honor that by only offering individual therapy. These one-on-one sessions will give you the privacy you need to work through traumatic experiences with a trusted professional. Our limited number of clients also ensures a greater sense of privacy throughout your treatment program.
  • Luxury: We go above and beyond to curate a five-star experience for our clients. Our 15,000-square-foot treatment center is located along a gorgeous lake in Sebring, Florida and next to a state park with plenty of hiking trails. These natural amenities can give you a sense of awe of the power of nature, a feeling that has been found to decrease PTSD symptoms. Our amenities also extend to a pool, spa, dock, and boat. By providing a luxury experience, we seek to cultivate a sense of relaxation that allows you to truly focus on your recovery journey.

These elements come together to provide a strong foundation for your recovery, so that over the course of your program, you feel comfortable and supported to take steps toward healing from your trauma. Contact us to learn more about our residential treatment program.

Our Approach to Trauma Treatment

At Tikvah Lake Recovery Center, we incorporate evidence-based and holistic therapies into our trauma treatment program for a whole-person approach to care. It’s important to note that trauma treatment sees improved outcomes when clients are involved in the direction of their treatment plan, and we take this into account in our programs. We empower our clients to make decisions about their unique treatment program to best address their recovery needs. Here are several techniques we use in our program to help our clients find healing after trauma:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): CBT allows clients to talk through their feelings and learn to reframe their thoughts for healthier thought patterns and behaviors.
  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR): This therapy involves a combination of talk therapy and eye movements to help you work through traumatic memories. It has been well-documented to be an effective treatment that can rapidly reduce negative feelings associated with the trauma.
  • Holistic practices: We complement our evidence-based techniques with holistic practices such as yoga and meditation to help clients cultivate mindfulness.
  • Dual diagnosis treatment: Studies have found that trauma can make an individual more vulnerable to developing a substance use disorder, especially because substances are sometimes used as a way to self-medicate trauma disorder symptoms. We provide dual diagnosis treatment that addresses both substance use disorders and trauma disorders so that you can better understand the link between the two. This type of treatment has been known to improve treatment outcomes.

By utilizing a variety of treatment techniques, we hope to promote healing in our clients’ minds, bodies, and spirits. Contact us to learn how our multifaceted approach to trauma treatment can help improve your well-being.
